Trauma is a medical condition that impacts your body and brain. The nervous system collects information from all 5 senses and sends it to your brain to “categorize” this information. This information is used later for protection – your brain and body have a built-in mechanism to protect what is most valuable – your life.
Most people don’t see Trauma as a medical condition because it happens primarily in your mind. You may have signs of being traumatized: having a set of mental flashbacks, disconnecting from the present, or feeling keyed up a lot. Trauma occurs when our body is overwhelmed with an experience that causes us emotional or mental pain.
Because our brain is neuroplastic (neuro – the neurons that make up the connections in our brain plus plasticity – the capability of being changed), our pain is capable of being healed. This is HUGE for those who have endured multiple emotional and mental traumas. Although it is not an easy process and will require determination, it has been done many times.
Essentially, no matter how many traumatic experiences you have had, you can get better. You just need to reach out and get some support from others who know how to get you there. Reach out HERE
